From San Francisco, drive north about 50 miles to Point Reyes National Seashore.

There are a few ways to hike out to the sea cave. You can start at Limantour Beach (pictured), which is just a short hike from the parking lot. From there, you'll then walk roughly 2 miles south to Sculptured Beach.

If you want a longer hike, we recommend starting at the Point Reyes Hostel and taking the Laguna and Coast Trails to Sculptured Beach.

Once you've arrived to the aptly named Sculptured Beach, you'll know it. Look for beautifully sculpted rocks, arches, and caves along the beach.

The tide pools here expose a world of bright, colorful sea cucumbers, snails, anemones, and starfish.

You can also find thousands of mussels clinging to the rocks.

See that small opening in the rock? Look for this entryway to "Secret Beach." You'll have to make your way through that small tunnel—that means timing the waves just right to make it through safely.

You'll be face to face with these magnificent wind-carved, sand-colored cliffs.

You’ll then have one more tunnel to get through before making it to the center of a grand, 360-degree natural “amphitheater” with walls stretching up some 80 feet. This video by Leor Pantilat offers a great look around of this incredible secret sea cave.

Pretty cool, right? Do BEWARE: This area is only accessible during very low tide. You must check tide schedules in advance. You don’t want to get stuck out there! Have fun and be safe!
