But we’re here to tell you that you absolutely must explore this part of San Francisco. Who knows, you may discover your new favorite adventure.
Russian Hill is known for exquisite gardens, historic homes, and an urban hike that offers breathtaking views.
Follow this map to go on this fabulous Russian Hill walk. You'll wind through parts of San Francisco that you never knew existed.
Russian Hill Hike address: Vallejo St & Mason St, San Francisco, 94133
Start your Russian Hill hike at Vallejo and Mason streets. Proceed up the Vallejo Steps and continue upward.
After the Vallejo steps, you'll come up to Ina Coolbrith Park on your right.
Walk around the hilltop park dedicated to Ina Coolbrith, California's first poet laureate. Soak in the views, snap a few photos, and see what landmarks and buildings you can identify.
Next, go right from Ina Coolbrith Park and head to a wooden bench at the end of the path called "Poet Corner." This is a great place to admire the awesome view of Russian Hill, North Beach, and other nearby areas.
Exit Ina Coolbrith and proceed to Macondray Lane. You'll reach the wooden stairs from Taylor Street.
Spectacular city views are best at Jones and Union in Russian Hill. You can see the Bay Bridge, Coit Tower, and beyond.
Most of the hike through Russian Hill is on the stairways that connect streets and hidden city lanes.
No visit to Russian Hill is complete without admiring the iconic San Francisco architecture you'll find here.
