5 Stores That Anyone Who Grew Up In San Francisco Will Undoubtedly Remember

San Francisco is constantly changing, so things come and go. There’s always something new to try, and new businesses open up faster than you think as well. Learn more about these old stores of the past that have become part of the history of San Francisco. Here are 5 stores that will bring back memories and more for locals.
1. City of Paris
The City of Paris store was founded in 1850 by a Frenchman Felix Verdier. The flagship store at Union Square was one of city's most important department stores from 1850 to 1976. The store's history is rooted in the 1849 California Gold Rush.
2. The Emporium
The Emporium store opened in 1896 at Market 5th Streets and was a mid-line department store chain headquartered in San Francisco. The front of the building was destroyed in the 1906 Earthquake, and then later reconstructed two years later. The store closed permanently in 1996 to be redeveloped as part of the San Francisco Shopping Center that is popular today called Westfield. Do you remember this store?
3. I. Magnin
I. Magnin was founded in 1876 and originally sold items for babies, and bridal wear that eventually expanded. However, Magnin was sold in the 1940s and eventually became Macy's in 1994.
4. Roos Brothers
The Roos Brothers Store was located at Post & Kearny Streets in San Francisco. The first Roos clothing store opened in 1865 and started declining in the 1980s as an upscale men's clothing store. The last Roos stores lasted until the 1990s.
5. H. Liebes
H. Liebes was a one level store that closed in 1971. The store was located at Grant Avenue at Geary in downtown San Francisco. Eventually, the store was replaced by Blum's bakery and soda fountain.
