The city you see today was once very different. For example, the Presidio had many more abandoned buildings. The Public Health Service Hospital (PHSH) Hospital was located in the Presidio. This former hospital was completely abandoned from 1988 to 2009.
This abandoned hospital was an eyesore for years. The haunted stories and eerie happenings made many people avoid it.
During the years of abandonment, this hospital was left untouched with various supplies and machines left to rot. Curious onlookers and others have claimed to see or hear odd and haunted happenings at this hospital.
The 6th floor of the hospital was used by the defunct Letterman Army Medical Center for medical research and animal experiments. Hauntings and odd episodes have been reported for decades.
Along with being a former morgue, the hospital was the site of a murder in 2002. This spot was as creepy and eerie as it gets before renovation and rebuilding began in 2009.
In 2009, the main historical building of this hospital was transformed into housing in 2010, so all the graffiti and abandoned equipment was taken away.
Today, this old hospital is called the Presidio Landmark. It lives in a beautiful park, but with an eerie and haunted past.
