2. You remember when the 49ers were an incredibly amazing team.
The 49ers in the 1980s won Super Bowls in 1982, 1985, and 1989. Joe Montana was a national and local idol too. Today, it seems the Giants are the local favorites, but that was not always the case.
3. You remember and recall the moment when the Loma Prieta earthquake happened in 1989.
You'll remember where you were and what you were doing (maybe cheering on the Giants at the World Series?!) when this massive trembler hit. The 6.9 was terrifying and caused much destruction in and around the city of San Francisco.
4. You'd get new albums on cassette or vinyl from the Tower Records.
Some recall Tower Records giving away book covers with different artists on it back in the 80s, too. Cool!
5. You remember the "old" Cliff House.
At one time, the touristy Cliff House, had penny arcade games in the basement. Wow!
6. You walked across the Golden Gate Bridge for the 50th Anniversary.
In May 1987, some 300,000 people were stuck in a human traffic jam on the iconic bridge to celebrate the landmark anniversary. This would seem crazy to think about today?
7. Eating at Doggie Diners.
Perhaps you got lunch or food at one of the Doggie Diners in Fog City or around the Bay Area. Yum!
8. You remember the Embarcadero Freeway?
Also known as State Route 480, the freeway was never fully completed.
9. You remember fondly when Journey were new and successful.
Formed in San Francisco, Journey had numerous hits in the 80s. Also, Journey performed their debut show at the Great American Music Hall. Or you may have been more into punk rock from Fog City like the Dead Kennedys!
10. You ate at Zim's.
Zim's was around from 1949-1995, and considered the Bay Area's Unofficial Burger King. Perhaps you recall late-night burgers and milk shakes made from real ice cream at Zim's?
