As local travel experts, we know what travelers are looking for when it comes to finding the perfect accommodations for their next trip. To compile our lists, we scour the internet to find properties with excellent ratings and reviews, desirable amenities, nearby attractions, and that something special that makes a destination worthy of traveling for.
The area of Mount Shasta in Northern California is a great place to do several winter activities. And the beautiful Inn at Mount Shasta can direct you to the best things to do in the area!
The Inn at Mount Shasta has a long list of activities guests can do year-round. Located in the heart of town, this hotel makes a great home base to explore all Shasta has to offer. And it offers a lot!
Arrive with an itinerary in mind or rely on the friendly staff of locals to guide you to the best places in the Mount Shasta area.
There are plenty of activities in the Shasta area year-round, but winter is a really magical time to visit the area. One of the things that makes Mount Shasta so special is it feels a world away from many of the California winter tourist spots.
We love Truckee and Tahoe for skiing and socializing, but it can get crowded. While tourists love Mount Shasta, too, it’s not as packed as the Tahoe area.
The recently renovated rooms come with free WiFi, a mini fridge, and comfortable bed linens. The Inn at Mount Shasta is dog-friendly, but call first before making a reservation to ensure you’re booking a dog-friendly room.
There are few things more relaxing than staying in a warm resort while it snows outside. If you want to hunker down in your cozy room, you can entertain yourself by watching something on the HD TV with satellite. And just a 5-minute drive from the hotel is the original Black Bear Diner. You’ll also find an outdoor fire pit, where you can warm yourself in between rounds of cornhole.
Less than a 20 minute drive from the Inn at Mount Shasta is the Mount Shasta Ski Park. The reasonably-priced park offers slopes for every skill level, and also has a tubing area.
On Friday and Saturday nights, visitors can enjoy night skiing and boarding.
The downtown area with shops and restaurants is just a short drive or walk from the inn. The upscale Bistro 107 serves a creative menu with California Classics.
Or dine at Lily’s Restaurant, located in a quaint white cottage with a large dining room. They have a large menu with Benedicts, burgers, and specialty entrees. The downtown area is also home to several art galleries.
Mount Shasta draws a lot of tourists seeking a spiritual experience. The town of Mount Shasta sits in the shadow of Mount Shasta (the mountain with the same name). This sleeping volcano at the southern end of the Cascade Mountains was considered a sacred place for the Native peoples in the area. You can find spiritual tours and retreats in the area. If you’re not seeking a specialized spiritual tour, try connecting with nature on a hike to McCloud Falls, or visiting a local spa.
Drive 10 miles north to the town of Weed and visit the Stewart Mineral Hot Springs. Bathe in a natural hot spring with views of Mount Shasta.
