As local travel experts, we know what travelers are looking for when it comes to finding the perfect accommodations for their next trip. To compile our lists, we scour the internet to find properties with excellent ratings and reviews, desirable amenities, nearby attractions, and that something special that makes a destination worthy of traveling for.
If you’re looking for a beautiful riverfront resort, Northern California is one of the easiest and best places to find them. Surrounded by natural beauty, al fresco excursions, and oodles of peace and quiet, they are the perfect spots to let go and recharge for a weekend or a week-long vacation.
The Fern River Resort is located in the town of Felton, about an hour southwest of San Jose, and 15 minutes north of Santa Cruz.
Back in the Gold Rush days, there were a few cabins on the property where miners stayed. Since that time, this riverside resort has been a multigenerational enterprise that draws folks from all over the state.
The soaring trees are the first thing to catch your eye when you come onto the property.
Full-size appliances including a stove and oven are in all of the cabins with a full-size kitchen. But it’s important to note that this is not an upscale "glamping" experience. If you desire to cook during your stay, you need to bring your own pots and pans (rental pots and pans are available at the office).
The Presidential Cabin is the largest, sleeping up to 8 guests.
In addition to a master bedroom with a queen bed, and second bedroom with two twin beds, there is also a loft with a double bed. The living room is one of the most beautiful features here with a spiral staircase leading up to the loft. The cabin also overlooks the beautiful garden on the property.
Who wouldn’t love looking at this view behind your home-away-from-home every day?
Guests can embark upon five different hiking and biking trails just steps from the property boundaries into the adjoining Henry Cowell Redwoods State Park.
Walking or sitting alongside the river is one of the most popular things to do to enjoy the natural scenery.
