Finding respite from the relentless summer heat is a must during this time of year. Heading to the nearest lake, river, or ocean beach for a refreshing dip is always a great option, but why not go the extra mile and find somewhere truly memorable where you can cool off? Hidden away from view and boasting pristine views of a waterfall, this natural pool is utterly fantastic. Known as God’s Bath, you’ll feel like you’ve discovered paradise when you seek this place out!
God's Bath is a dreamy natural pool complete with a spectacular waterfall hiding in Tuolumne County, California. It can be tricky to find, but as they say, the best things in life don't come easy!
Located in the Stanislaus National Forest, God's Bath is close to the small towns of Twain Harte and Tuolumne. From this area, take Tuolumne Road to Old Buchanan Mine Road and follow it all the way to the Cottonwood Bridge. Park here in one of the pullouts on the road.
You'll have to hike a short, .9-mile out-and-back trail to the pool, but beware, it is steep . Ropes have been attached to help guide hikers down the trail, but use caution and take your time. The descent can be tough for inexperienced hikers, but the pool at the end is worth every step.
Once at the bottom, you'll trek across a boulder-filled landscape while following the Clavey River. Watch your step, but also keep an eye out for the various waterfalls, crystal clear pools, and wildlife that can be found in this spectacular area.
Boasting a pool of bright blue water underneath a gushing waterfall, God's Bath truly lives up to the name. It's the type of sight that'll make you glad you took the time to find it.
This section of the river is filled with nooks and crannies where you can enjoy a refreshing dip. The water is a little chilly, but that's definitely a good thing on those hot summer days! Although God's Bath can get crowded on weekends, it isn't very hard to find your own little slice of this oasis to enjoy.
Consider packing a picnic and spending an entire afternoon at this off-the-beaten-path natural pool. Just remember to take all your trash with you and leave the area better than you found it, so we can continue to enjoy this beautiful destination for years to come!
