Sunset Magazine just came out with a list of the most “game-changing places to live” in the country, and at the top of the list was California’s capital—Sacramento. It’s been well-known by Northern Californians what a great city Sacramento is, so it’s nice to see it getting national attention. Sunset Magazine based their list of 20 U.S. towns and cities off of unemployment rates, median home prices, and population in order to determine the most livable places in the country. Here’s how Sacramento factored in:
Sacramento was the city to top Sunset's list of most "game-changing places to live". Other Northern California communities to accompany it were Truckee, Fresno, and Eureka.
The article focused on the fact that Sacramento has rapidly made a change from "sleepy cow town" into a bustling hub for culture and art. The article notes that whereas the town was practically empty on weekends, it is now a thriving place with plenty of things to do.
When it comes to thriving cities in California, Sacramento often gets left out of the conversation. Even in Northern California, San Francisco is often regarded as the city. However, many believe this is soon to change.
The article lists Sacramento's booming food scene as the reason for its number one ranking. Not only is the food scene growing, but the farm-to-table philosophy is quickly spreading. Farmers' markets are often open daily during peak seasons, and there's a lot of markets to choose from.
Brewpubs, cafes, and other hip eateries are popping up all over the place. Sacramento is quickly turning into a city that has a little bit of everything. It's no longer just a "cow town", but it still holds the farming way of life dear to its heart.
The city did see a huge rise in housing prices last year . However, Sacramento still remains a less expensive option to the Bay Area.
It looks like California's capital city is finally getting some well-deserved recognition. It may be growing substantially, but the best part of Sac is that its always stayed true to its roots.
