Let’s talk Mexican food. Northern California is a big fan. We hate to brag but we’re gonna. There’s very few parts of the U.S. that have the kind of authentic fresh Mex like we do. Maybe it’s the whole-food influence or the fact that Mexico is so close to our part of the country, we really don’t know why and we really don’t care. All we know is our Mexican food will blow your mind and here are a few of our favorites to prove it.
If you're anywhere near the Redwoods this summer, make sure to stop here. As you can see the burritos are twice the size of your hand! Plus, the food is incredible. In a hurry? Grab your order to go and eat while sitting in The Avenue of the Giants. Nothing better.
Taco Loco translated is "A Crazy Taco." So how can you go wrong here? We're not even sure what all is in this Fiesta Burrito but want to put it in our belly right now.
This little restaurant is quite a big deal around here. They serve salsas that are different from your normal average salsa; you'll have to stop by and see what we mean. Plus, their mojitos are to die for - and who doesn't love fresh black beans and lime cilantro rice?
4. Colina De Oro - 4120 Sunset Lane,
Shingle Springs
Full disclosure here - I LOVE this place. It's one that I can personally say is extremely YUMMY. It has always been a favorite of mine and my hubby. Fresh salsa and always great customer service. I mean, cmon'! Check out that carne asada burrito with beans and rice!
This here folks is a Carne Asada quesadilla -- and we want one or two or seven. This place is where you want to go for some authentic Mexican food. The only con? The parking. They have very few spaces and street parking is a must -- but oh, so worth it!
This here is their "Queso Fundido." YUM! If you're looking for something a little more upscale you need to dine here. Plus, this is where you can enjoy a Latin American influence to your usual Mexican food menu.
There's a reason we love to go to a Mexican market that serves food -- great prices AND great food! This tiny hole in the wall is packed with a fantastic reputation for incredible food. Don't miss this one!
9. El Favorito Taqueria - 10427 Folsom Blvd
Rancho Cordova
The first image is a steaming bowl of Pozole and this one...one of my favorites - enchiladas! This is a great place to walk in and bring home a meal when you don't feel like cooking. Great idea, right!?

10. Taqueria Vallarta - 5105 Laguna Blvd
Elk Grove
The whole gang's here! This place has a reputation for being a favorite around here. And, this sauce covered gem? It's a "wet burrito" or "enchilada-style burrito." Try one. Eat one. You're welcome.
Now, we know you’ve all got your ABSOLUTE FAVORITE Mexican restaurants in your neck of the woods. Let us know about them! We can never know enough great spots to grab some authentic Mexican food.
