Any animal lover is bound to enjoy their time at this unique rehabilitation center so be sure to drop by!
Located in Sausalito, the Marine Mammal Center has been doing important work saving and rehabilitating marine wildlife for as far back as 1975. Most people don't even know about the inspiring work that this hospital does or even that they offer guided tours of their amazing facility.
Tucked away in the Marin Headlands, this state-of-the-art facility first opened in 2009. Although rescuing and caring for animals is their main focus, the center also offers daily tours and other educational activities that are great for families and wildlife enthusiasts.
Best of all, admission to the Marine Mammal Center is completely free of charge. You can either opt for a self-guided tour of the facility at your own pace or take them up on their guided tours which cost just $10 for adults and $5 for kids (kids 4 and under are free.)
The guided tour is the best way to learn about the important work that the Marine Mammal Center does. During the 45-minute-long tour, visitors will be led by docents through fascinating exhibits and viewing areas. You'll even learn about the individual stories of certain seal and sea lion "patients".
However, that's not the only guided experience the center has to offer. They also boast a "Behind the Scenes Experience" along with special experiences for birthdays, college groups, and scout troops.
There's no telling what animals will be out and about during your time at the center. It all depends on the time of year that you decide to visit. February through May is considered the most exciting time of year since it's pupping season. You can expect to see northern elephant seals and California sea lions during this time.
As the world's largest marine mammal hospital, a visit to this renowned facility is a must for any wildlife lover. Currently, the center is temporarily closed for improvements and they are scheduled to reopen on February 10, 2020.
