When most people think of the quiet town of Corning, it’s usually olives that first come to mind. After all, the olive and olive oil industry is arguably the town’s humble claim to fame. However, that’s not all that grows in this small town north of Sacramento. It’s also home to the extraordinary Moonbeam Farm, a large lavender and loofah grower located just off the highway. In fact, this family-owned farm is one of the largest loofah growers in the West! This farm is a true Corning treasure, so read on to learn all about it.
Hiding just outside of Corning is a small organic farm where both lavender AND loofah grow in abundance. MoonBeam Farm is located right off Interstate 5 and it makes for a wonderful place to visit.
Nestled across ten acres of fertile valley, MoonBeam Farm is just as charming of a place as it sounds. For a few hours, visitors can forget about the chaos of daily life and immerse themselves in the sights and smells of a beautiful and abundant farm.
MoonBeam Farm is open to the public and even offers tours during peak seasons; May through June for lavender, and September through October for loofah. These tours are much more than your average walkabout. They are an informative experience unlike any other.
The farm's owner, Carolyn "Caz" Hansen, is passionate about educating people on the life cycles of lavender and inspiring people to grow their own. She offers many classes and community based meetings so people can become expert growers just like her!
Loofah is another major focus at the farm. Not only does this plant produce beautiful flowers, but it makes for a great exfoliator. You won't ever want to go back to a synthetic loofah once you try a homegrown one from MoonBeam Farm.
Don't forget to drop by the country store that's also located on the farm. Filled with all types of goodies, you won't be able to resist purchasing one of the farm's natural soaps, sponges, or lavender-centric bath products to take with you.
