1. Tadich Grill– San Francisco

The Tadich Grill was founded at its present location in 1967 but like many great business stories, the concept came about
much earlier , in 1849. Tadich Grill is one of the oldest restaurants in California. Located in San Francisco’s financial district, the grill is still loved by locals and tourists. This fine dining establishment serves 75 entrees, so there’s something for everyone in your party. Favorites include Oysters Rockefeller, cioppino, and Filet Mignon with shoestring potatoes. Tadich Grill is open Monday through Friday from 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.; Saturday from 4:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. only and closed on Sundays.
2. The Old Clam House– San Francisco

The Old Clam House opened in 1861 and has been in the same spot ever since. Located in the south area of San Francisco, The Old Clam House serves clams, clam chowder, crabs, and other seafood classics. The restaurant is open everyday for lunch and dinner from 11:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m.
3. Sam's Grill and Seafood– San Francisco

The first of two Sam’s on our list, this Sam’s opened in 1867 in San Francisco’s Financial District. It is the 5th oldest restaurant in the U.S. Started by Michael Bolan Moraghan, an oysterman, who called the restaurant "M.B. Moraghan’s". In 1946 the name was changed to Sam’s Grill and Seafood. The restaurant is located on Belden Alley, a beautiful little alley with restaurants nestled in the heart of San Francisco. Sam’s is open Monday through Friday from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.
4. Fior d'Italia— San Francisco

Opened in 1868 to feed the growing Gold Rush population, this trattoria serves authentic Northern Italian cuisine. The large menu includes gnocchi, Bolognese, clam linguine, and much more! Catch a live music show every Sunday from 1:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.
5. Tong Fong Low– Oroville

Tong Fong Low is the oldest Chinese food restaurant in California. Opened in 1912, they have many popular and well-loved specialties including Egg Foo Young, Mongolian Beef, and Chicken Chow Mein. This famous restaurant now has two locations— one in Oroville and one in Chico, but the original Tong Fong Low is in the small city of Oroville. Tong Fong Low is open Tuesday through Sunday from 11 a.m. to 8:30 p.m.
6. Sam's Anchor Cafe– Tiburon

Sam’s Anchor Cafe in Tiburon has good food and even better views. Open since the 1920s, Sam’s is the place you want to be on a sunny day in the Bay Area. The massive patio is a perfect place to enjoy the bay views and temperate Bay Area weather. Sam’s Anchor Cafe is open Monday through Friday from 12 p.m. to 10 p.m., and Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.

In 1882 the Brewster Building was constructed and served as an all-purpose store selling dry goods, clothing, hardware, groceries and more. Through the years the building served several purposes and was eventually empty from the 1970s until 1996 when it was revamped and updated. Today the building is the location of
Brewsters Bar & Grill .

Ham’s Station was renovated in 2018 and is now a restaurant but the building has been around for a long time. Constructed in 1862, it was a stop on the
Amador-Nevada toll wagon road .
Considering the age of the entire United States, California is not very old. The state was officially established in 1850, and many of the state’s oldest buildings date to around that time. So it’s impressive to see so many old restaurants!
