This incredible point-to-point trail starts in the town of Hiouchi, not far from Crescent City. It traverses through redwood forests with stunning views of the river. The best time to hike this trail is March through October. It’s unlikely you’ll encounter other people on this secluded hike. And leave your pup at home for this one– dogs are not allowed on the trail.

The trail meanders south and then east along the river. Then, it veers off into the mountains for a short section. Be sure to follow the AllTrails map, unless you want to explore other, longer trails.

Here is how we’d approach a trip to the area: First, book a couple nights in a local motel or Vrbo. Plan to hike some short loop trails in the morning in order to enjoy the redwoods in the misty coastal fog. The nearby Simpson-Reed Trail is a good one!
