This roadside stop in Amador County was built in 1863 for travelers crossing Carson Pass.
It was also a stop on the Pony Express, a short-lived American mail delivery system that used riders on horseback.

Cook's Station has a free-standing wood stove in the middle of the dining room to keep guests warm on cold mountain days. Depending on what direction you want to go, there is both a coffee station and a bar to quench your thirst and help you warm up.

Cook's Station also offers takeout if you’re in a hurry to get to your destination. Even though the station has changed a lot over the years, it’s easy to imagine that this stop would be very needed on what was once a treacherous journey.
