Located in Northern California on the southwest shore of the lake, the view at the top of Mount Tallac is most definitely a sight for sore eyes. Those who endure the climb are treated to a breathtaking view of Tahoe's vibrant blue waters, California's rugged Desolation Wilderness, and scenery that extends well beyond the Nevada state line.

The trail starts off by taking you through thickets of pine forest before leading you up a ridge that overlooks Fallen Leaf Lake and the rest of Tahoe's southern shoreline. This is definitely a hike you don't want to rush, as the views are just too good to pass up.
After you've passed Fallen Leaf Lake, the trail starts to wrap around the mountain's south shoulder. From here, you'll enjoy inspiring views of Desolation Wilderness, including landmarks like the Crystal Range and Pyramid Peak.
After a five-mile climb, you'll then be rewarded with the view that everybody talks about. It truly is one of the most fantastic views of Lake Tahoe, and that's saying a lot! Looking out across the dazzling blue lake and into the beyond, you'll realize it was worth every step.
