Few people realize that tucked away in the mountains near South Lake Tahoe is a hidden cabin resort just waiting to be uncovered. This place is great for spending a few hours or an entire weekend and you'll definitely want to find it.
The cabin resort is reachable by hiking along the Angora Lakes Trail. The trail is rated as easy and it's only 1.2-miles long, making this a short and sweet adventure that everybody can take advantage of. It is possible to drive to the lakes but this small hike is so much more rewarding!
To get to the trailhead you'll head toward Emerald Bay on Highway 89. You'll make a left on Fallen Leaf Lake Road and then another left onto Tahoe Mountain Road. You'll drive along this road until you reach Angora Ridge Road on your right.
From here you'll drive along a narrow road until you reach the trailhead. It's located right past a fire lookout and is well-signed, so you can't miss it.
The trail to Angora Lakes is well-marked and easy to follow. You'll come across the larger of the two lakes, Lower Angora Lake, first. The beauty of this lake is indescribable but you'll want to continue on to reach the resort.
Upper Angora Lake is just .2 miles further up the trail. There is a small incline but it's easily manageable by most adults and children. It's here that you'll find where all the recreation takes place.
This lake, although smaller, offers plenty of opportunities for play. You'll find a public sand area, row boats available for rent, and plenty of cliffs that are perfect for jumping into the lake from. On top of that, it's here you'll find the Angora Lakes Resort.
Believe it or not, this hidden cabin resort has been welcoming visitors since the 1920s. They offer 9 rustic cabins that you can rent and they're also home to a lovely little snack shop where you can pick up a quick treat to enjoy. Don't miss out on their famous lemonade popsicles—the perfect treat after a long hike.
