You've probably heard of haunted ghost towns, haunted houses, haunted hotels, etc. But what about a haunted hike? It just so happens that Northern California is home to one of the scariest hikes in the country and if you're a paranormal enthusiast then you might want to check it out.
At first, it seems that the Chilnualna Falls Trail in Yosemite National Park has everything you could desire in an outdoor excursion. The 7-mile trail is considered a best-kept secret since not many people know about it. It even leads you to several beautiful bodies of water and the delightful Chilnuala Falls.
However, there is an eerie legend surrounding this trail that might make you reconsider setting off on this adventure. If you do, you'll most definitely want to bring a friend—you know, for moral support.
As you make your trek through Yosemite's beautiful forest, you'll be completely surrounded by wilderness. The hike itself is actually really lovely, but it's the waterfall at the end that you should be worried about.
According to Native American legend, the spirit of a drowned child resides in the pool at the bottom of the falls. Some people have even claimed to hear the boy's spirit cry out to them. Be warned, though. It's believed that if you attempt to help the boy, he'll drown you in the pool.
In general, Native American legend insists that Yosemite's waterfalls are haunted. According to the Miwok people, the waterfalls are haunted by an evil wind called "Po-ho-no". The wind is believed to entice people to the very edge of the waterfall before pushing them over.
There's no denying the beauty of Chilnualna Falls. However, seeing it for yourself may come at a price! If you're at all creeped out by the paranormal, you may want to stay far away from this stunning natural wonder in Yosemite National Park.
