The family's patriarch, John Paxton, had hopes to build a winery on the property but never saw its completion before passing away aboard a steamer ship on his way to England.
John Paxton left behind a widow, Hannah Paxton, who lived at the manor until her death in 1902. All in all, the manor remained a private residence until 1981 when it opened to the public for the very first time.
Since then, the Madrona Manor has become an idyllic getaway destination and event venue. The beauty of the place is simply unparalleled, and its old-fashioned charm is impossible not to love. However, as you'd expect from a historic structure like this one, it's also home to quite a few ghost stories.
