This 3-Mile Hike In Northern California Takes You Through An Enchanting Forest

If there’s one type of landscape that Northern California has become famous for, it’s the numerous awe-inspiring redwood forests that our region of the state contains. We consider ourselves incredibly lucky to be just a short drive away from some of the world’s most magical forest scenery, and it’s something we definitely don’t take lightly. Exploring our state’s enchanting redwood landscape is a must for any nature lover, and this brief but breathtaking trail is the perfect way to do so. This 3-mile forest hike showcases a remote slice of a beautiful redwood grove, and it’s simply an adventure you’ll never forget.
There are a plethora of hiking trails which feature the endless beauty of Northern California's magnificent redwood trees. However, there's one trail that should definitely be on your to-do list: the Tall Trees Grove Trail near Trinidad, California.
The 3.3-mile loop trail leads hikers into a remote section of Redwood National Park. In fact, in order to gain access to the trail you'll need to stop by the Kuchel Visitor Center to obtain the combination to the locked gate at the trailhead.
Be sure to pick up a permit at the Visitor Center while you're there. They are necessary for accessing the trail, and they are completely free. However, daily permits are limited and it's first come first serve. Don't worry—the extra effort is so worth it!
All of these extra steps pretty much guarantee you'll have a quiet and serene experience on the trail. After setting off on the trailhead, you'll gently descend to the Redwood River. All the while, humongous groves of redwood trees will tower over you.
You'll reach the bottom after about a mile and a half. From here, you'll loop around before climbing back up, enjoying the stunning atmosphere of vibrant green flora and 350-foot high redwoods in the mean time.
The Tall Trees Grove Trail is relatively short and easy, although the climb back up can be quite the workout. Be sure to bring plenty of water, snacks, and sturdy hiking shoes. This area is known for its remoteness and cell phone reception is spotty at best.
