Crescent City is one of those places that seems too good to be true. This sleepy little coastal community seems like it might have been conjured up from a dream. With a population of just 7,600 and its Pacific coast setting, this place is a true haven away from reality. It’s the type of place you go not to do things, but to relax and take in the stunning beauty surrounding you from all sides. The next time you find yourself in this quaint coastal town, check out the B Street Pier. It’s a great place for fishing and crabbing, and you can’t help but lose track of time as you traverse the long wooden pier and take in the breathtaking ocean views.
Located in Crescent City is the utterly enchanting B Street Pier. This is an awesome place to spend an hour or even a whole day soaking up the beauty that this part of the coastline boasts.
The pier was built in 1989 to replace an old and damaged pier. At a magnificent 900-feet long, it's the northernmost pier in all of California. You can find it at the west end of the bay near the harbor's main entrance.
The view as you walk down the pier is absolutely excellent. With nothing but the sounds of the ocean and the occasional seagull, there's absolutely nothing to disturb you here.
The sight of Battery Point Lighthouse in the distance just completes the experience! The pier is rarely crowded, ensuring a peaceful and relaxing time as you take in the views.
The construction of this beautiful pier was meant to draw in fishing tourists to Crescent City. Unfortunately, over the years it's proven to be a not-so-good spot for fishing (you'll still spot people with fishing poles giving it a good try, though). However, it has proven to be an excellent spot for crabbing.
Dungeness crabs are found in abundance at the pier. Tourists can bring a crabpot or purchase one from a nearby store, toss it over the side of the pier, and wait for it to fill up with crabs! A crabbing license is not required at the pier, as long as you restrict yourself to two crabpots per person.
Whether you're here to try your hand at crabbing or simply to take a stroll down the pier, you'll find that there's no denying the serenity of this place. Take a load off, and breathe in that fresh ocean air!
