Northern California may be most famous for its wine scene, but there’s a lot of other great things brewing here. It turns out that the small town of Etna is home to its very own distillery where you can indulge in some of our state’s finest spirits. But that’s not all! This place also happens to serve up some amazing food and it’s a must-visit for any self-professed “foodie”. Add this distillery restaurant to your bucket list because it’s so worth visiting.
Etna may be a tiny town of just 737 residents, but it's home to some truly one-of-a-kind destinations. For instance, it's here that you'll find one of Northern California's finest distilleries...and a pretty amazing restaurant to boot!
Denny Bar Company is part distillery and part restaurant, but it's entirely unique. It first opened its doors just a year ago in January 2018. However, it's already started to attract visitors from all over Northern California to this charming little community.
First of all, Denny Bar Co. resides in a historic brick building that was originally built in 1880 by the Parker Campbell Company. It sold goods and merchandise to miners and settlers of the Gold Rush era, and the second story was the site of the very first high school north of Red Bluff, California.
In 1896, the store was sold to a businessman named A.H. Denny. Denny was seemingly a jack of all trades, acting as a Wells Fargo agent, a Justice of the Peace, and he even opened Etna's first bank and library. In 1900, he opened Denny Bar Company which was the first chain of retail stores in all of California.
The current Denny Bar Co. team has proved themselves dedicated to preserving the building's unique history. It's obviously a very important part of the community. Today, you can visit the old structure and indulge in some of the region's finest spirits along with some seriously mouthwatering food.
Complimentary distillery tours are provided every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. Tours are roughly half an hour and they end with a free tasting of their high-quality craft distilled spirits.
Afterward, be sure to enjoy a meal in their cozy and inviting restaurant. With drool-worthy entrees like Korean BBQ Short Ribs and wood-fired pizza, this is definitely far from your average "bar food"—that's for sure!
A top-notch distillery and restaurant is one of the last things you'd expect in a small Siskiyou County town like this one. It just goes to show you that Northern California is full of surprises. Pay Denny Bar Co. a visit at 511 Main St, Etna, CA 96027.
