Mark Your Calendars, As This Former Military Base Turned Upscale Neighborhood Is Coming Soon To Northern California
Folks in the San Francisco Bay Area have always paved the way for grander things to come. From history to politics, culture, food, clothing, and more, breaking the mold is an integral part of the way of life here. That extends to creating new residential communities as well – a great example of which is the transformation of The Presidio into residential housing.
Another new transformed former military base is in the works as well on Yerba Buena Island, which just might set the mark—for better or worse—for historical transformations across the country – The Residences at Yerba Buena Island.

Over the years it also served as an anti-submarine patrol docking station, the West Coast office of Pan American Airways, a Works Progress Administration project, and the site of the 1939 Golden Gate International Exposition, among other uses. Decommissioned by the military decades ago, there have always been vastly different ideas about what to do with the island. Residential development was always strongly opposed - until now.

A pool, wellness and fitness, park, and other lifestyle amenities are part of the residential experience here. And don’t forget those awe-inspiring views of the Golden Gate Bridge to the west, and the downtown San Francisco skyline to the south just across the bay from the Ferry Building.

Parts of the island still contain some of the original historic structures and are open for tourism, so it remains a wonderful destination for Bay Area locals and visitors alike.
