Lake Tahoe is a hotspot of recreational fun all year round. Whether you prefer boating around the lake’s cool waters or hitting the slopes of the surrounding mountains, there’s always something to do! And when you’re having fun in Tahoe, you’re bound to work up an appetite. It’s a good thing Char-Pit has been serving up delicious, hearty burgers since the 1960s. The next time you need to fill up, stop by this iconic burger cafe and they’ll take care of you.
A Lake Tahoe icon since it opened in 1962, Char-Pit in Kings Beach is the go-to spot among locals and travelers alike for All-American eats.
The humble cafe hasn't changed much since it opened all those decades ago. When it first opened, it operated only during the summer. It wasn't until 1977 when they enclosed the building that it became a year-round dining destination at Lake Tahoe.
In fact, one of the best things about Char-Pit is the fact that almost nothing has changed! Their old-fashioned burgers are as delicious as ever. Served on a regular bun with ketchup, mustard, and pickles, the burger's simplicity is hard not to love.
The Char-Pit's famous burgers are available in either quarter-pound or half-pound sizes. You can keep it simple with a regular burger, cheeseburger, or bacon burger. Alternatively, you can try one of the cafe's specialty burgers, like the Yankee Burger, Tiki Burger, or Mexican Burger.
And although burgers are what Char-Pit is most famous for, they aren't the only thing the restaurant excels at. Believe it or not, this little burger shack serves up some mighty fine ribs! They also offer char-grilled turkey, fish and chips, shrimp baskets, and more.
On a hot summer day, nothing beats indulging in a Char-Pit frostie. They've got an awesome outdoor patio where you can sit and enjoy your meal while enjoying the fresh mountain air and Tahoe's breathtaking scenery.
Whether you find yourself in Kings Beach during summer, winter, or during the off-season, a visit to Char-Pit should definitely be on your to-do list. They just don't make burgers like this anymore! Follow Char-Pit's Facebook page to stay up to date and learn more.
