Hiding out in a tiny strip mall in Sacramento, Celestin's is a true hidden gem. This place may be small, but don't be fooled. It's home to the finest French Creole cuisine in Northern California.
Believe it or not, Celestin's has been around for a LONG time. First opened in 1983 by Patrick and Phoebe Celestin, this delightful restaurant has always been a family affair. It's been nearly 40 years and they are still going strong.
The restaurant has had several locations over the years, and most recently they've moved to their third location in the heart of McKinley Park. Although the venue has changed, they are still serving up the local favorites that have made them famous among locals.
Of course, no visit to Celestin's is complete without tasting some of their beloved gumbo. The family recipe is an all-time favorite. Served over white rice and with a French roll, the combination of savory tastes and textures is mind-blowing.
In fact, Celestin's offers up six different varieties of gumbo. "Celestin's Gumbo" is the most popular, boasting a generous portion of chicken, sea scallops, wild shrimp, rock cod, and sausage. However, there is also a vegetarian option available.
If gumbo isn't your thing, don't worry. They have plenty of other delicious Creole entrees to choose from. Another popular option is the Grio. It's comprised of marinated pork that has been braised and deep-fried, served with ti-malice sauce and fried plantains.
And don't you dare leave without ordering a slice of their iconic Key Lime Pie. This classic dessert is composed of a perfect graham cracker crust, deliciously tart lime filling, and topped with plenty of whipped cream.
There's a lot of lip-smackin' good reasons to visit Celestin's so be sure to see them at 3610 McKinley Blvd, Sacramento, CA 95816.
