Hiding in the Sierra Nevadas near Twin Bridges is a short and sweet hiking trail that leads to an incredible cascade known as Bassi Falls.
Bassi Falls stands 109-feet-tall within the lush landscape of the El Dorado National Forest. Cascading over a massive pile of granite boulders, it's hard to believe this stunning waterfall is just a short hike away!
To find the trailhead, take US-50 east of Pollock Pines and exit at Ice House Road. Drive north for approximately 16 miles, turn right at the fork, and continue until you reach Big Silver Creek. Turn right onto a dirt road and follow it until you reach the marked trailhead at the end.
The trail is clearly marked and leads you through a stunning landscape of towering pine forest. You won't have to follow it for very long until you hear the roaring sound of cascading water in the distance.
The hike to the falls is just 1.2-miles with 250-feet in elevation gain. It's mostly a walk in the park right until the end where you'll make a steep climb to the top of the falls. It's definitely manageable for families and beginning hikers, but still, use caution when approaching the falls.
It isn't until you reach the base of the falls that you can truly appreciate the size of this spectacular waterfall. Additionally, the small pools formed by the cascade are great for wading and splashing around in!
Bassi Falls is an absolute delight to witness and easy to seek out. Be sure to add it to your bucket list and plan to check it out for an easy and memorable family adventure.
