We may be living in a world where tablets, Kindles, and other e-readers are taking over, but there’s still something so magical about visiting a physical bookshop. Bookshops are getting harder and harder to come by these days but there are still quite a few around that are worth checking out. Visit this two-story bookshop and you’ll feel like you’ve entered a world where time stands still. Let yourself get lost in the maze of bookshelves and breathe in that wonderful scent of book pages in the air! Taking a trip to a bookstore is one of those things that never gets old, especially if it happens to be the big bookstore that’s featured below.
Located in the wonderfully eccentric town of Eureka is an old-fashioned bookstore that bibliophiles will fall in love with. Boasting two entire levels of bookshelves stuffed to the brim, you could lose yourself for hours as you peruse this shop's endless treasures.
Eureka Books describes itself as "one of the last classic antiquarian bookstores on the West Coast", and it's true. It's not often you come across this type of bookshop anymore. When it comes to book shopping, you really have two choices: big-box chain Barnes and Noble...and the internet.
However, Eureka Books has been a beloved place to pick up new and used books since it first opened its doors in 1987. Located in the heart of Eureka's Old Town, the shop itself is located in a beautiful Victorian storefront that dates back to 1879. This place is just bursting with old-fashioned charm, both on the inside and outside.
Eureka Books is even a member of the Antiquarian Booksellers' Association of America (ABAA). The ABAA was founded back in 1949 in order to promote interest in rare and antiquarian books and book collecting. That means you're bound to find some unique gems hiding out in this delightful bookshop, the likes of which you can't easily come across anywhere else.
This place really resembles everything a bookshop should be. Cozy. Warm. Charming. And of course, bursting with a wide variety of books. The internet may have become many people's go-to place for book shopping, but it will never replace the feeling of visiting a shop like this.
On top of boasting a large and varied book selection, music lovers will be delighted to know that Eureka Books is also home to a pretty impressive record collection. The sight of all that vinyl is another blast from the past we will always love!
Eureka Books is open every day from 10:00 am to 6:00 pm. You'll find them located at 426 2nd Street Eureka, CA 95501. If you can't support them in-person, you can always peruse their online shop and have one-of-a-kind books shipped right to your door. Just click here.
