If you were born and raised in Northern California then you’re probably well-aware that living in our region of the state comes with a unique set of privileges. That’s exactly why we love living here so much. The list of privileges we enjoy could go on and on forever. However, we compiled a list of 10 of the greatest perks of Northern California living below. Keep reading and see how many you agree with.
1. We get to enjoy perfect weather all year long.
Although we boast significantly cooler temperatures than the southern region of our state, Northern California weather is always very enjoyable. Our summers aren't too hot. Our winters aren't too cold. We also boast a plethora of micro-climates. Is it a little too chilly on the coast? Just head inland approximately 20 miles or so and you'll experience much warmer temperatures. Too hot? Take a quick trip to the coast. We really have the best of both worlds!
2. Northern California is home to diverse and high-quality schools.
Our region's education system is notably excellent. We offer a variety of top-notch public and private schools to choose from. Just last year, several of our schools were named among the top 10 best colleges for your money by Time magazine. These schools included Berkeley, UC Davis, Stanford, San Jose State University, California State Unversity - Chico, and The California Maritime Academy in Vallejo...just to name a few. We don't have to travel far to get great education!
3. Every road is the scenic road.
Our region of the state couldn't be more different when it comes to highways. Whereas Southern California is notorious for constantly congested highways, many of our highways boast long stretches of scenic beauty. Heck, you could be driving down a scenic highway and not see another soul for miles. That's just how we like it.
4. The sky is the limit when it comes to recreation.
Northern California is an outdoorsman's paradise. Pick your poison because we've got it all: hiking, skiing, kayaking, canoeing, camping, fishing, and so much more.
5. The world's greatest natural wonders are in our backyard.
It feels pretty great knowing that we can take a trip to see some of our world's most epic natural attractions whenever we'd like. Humongous, towering redwoods. The endlessly majestic Sierra Nevada Mountains. The breathtaking beauty of Yosemite National Park. We're lucky to claim all of them!
6. Our culinary scene just can't be beat.
No matter what type of dining experience you prefer, you can bet we have it here in Northern California. Of course we boast plenty of great casual eateries but we also offer dozens upon dozens of world-class restaurants. Our culinary scene is constantly making waves and our stomachs couldn't be any happier.
7. So. Much. Wine.
This one goes without saying, but we'll say it anyway. Sure, we're home to the internationally renowned wine scene of Napa Valley. However, we also contain a variety of smaller but just as amazing vineyards in the lesser-known regions of our state. Wine enthusiasts could spend their entire lives exploring it all.
8. So many parks, so little time.
California is home to roughly 300 state parks and a majority of them can be found right here in NorCal. It seems like there is a new park waiting to be explored wherever you look! Choosing where to start can be an overwhelming task in itself. That's why we compiled a list of
19 State Parks In Northern California That Will Knock Your Socks Off.
9. Water is always just a stone's throw away.
Most people think of the ocean when they think of California. Yes, our coast is a treasured feature of our region. However, there are so many other great bodies of water to explore, including an endless amount of lakes and rivers. Shasta Lake, Lake Almanor, Sacramento River, Klamath River....the list could go on and on.
10. The views never get old.
Last but certainly not least, the utter beauty of our state is something that photographs will never be able to perfectly capture. Waking up every day to a region that's as beautiful as ours is a treat that we'll always be grateful for.
