If you’ve been in North Dakota for the past few weeks, you’ve probably noticed the sky has been unusually dull and hazy. Wildfires from the north and west of the state have turned the prairie skies into a smoky blur – and it is said that it may get worse. Check out these photos that show just how strange it’s been:

Recently, air quality alerts were issued in North Dakota due to ash and soot particles in the air from these fires. It is suggested that those with respiratory conditions keep their time outside at a minimum to avoid irritation.

You may continue to see these dark skies for quite a while as the fires continue burning, though shifts in the wind currents and atmospheric pressure may make it lessen or worsen over time.
