Leah moved to North Dakota when she was 12 years old and has traveled from the Red River Valley to the badlands and many places in between. She loves small-town life and currently enjoys living on a small farm in the ND prairie. She's always had a passion for writing and has participated in novel writing challenges such as NaNoWriMo multiple times. Her favorite part about this job is recognizing small businesses that deserve a boost and seeing the positive affect her articles can have on their traffic, especially in rural areas that might have otherwise gone overlooked.
The Peace Garden State is home to many towns and cities (though, fun fact, every incorporated place in North Dakota is considered a city – no matter how small), all with their own history and unique attributes. Not all of them have been named the most beautiful city in the state, though. If you want to experience one of the most picturesque towns here, you must visit Valley City, North Dakota.
Looking for a day trip destination? Why not head to one of North Dakota's most beautiful cities - Valley City.
This picturesque town in Barnes County has a population of around 6,400 residents. It's the perfect hometown kind of place that brings back good memories no matter where you're from.
Of the more than 10 bridges in town, the Hi-Line Railroad Bridge is one of the most iconic. This huge bridge spans 3,860 feet and at one point was the highest, longest bridge of its kind in the entire world.
Other bridges around town include the City Park Bridge (shown below), the Rainbow Bridge, and the only suspension bridge in the entire state - the VCSU Footbridge.
Valley City has so much more to offer besides its lovely historic bridges. Visit places like the Medicine Wheel Park or the Barnes County Museum, which includes an impressive triceratops skeleton found in the Dakotas.
You can also stroll around town and see what local shops, restaurants, and buildings there are to see. Stop by Dutton's Parlor for ice cream or coffee or end your day with exquisite dining with a view at the City Lights Supper Club.
With plenty of things to see and do, plus gorgeous sights to take in all over town, it's really no wonder why Valley City is considered by some the most beautiful town in all of North Dakota.
