North Dakota has some truly stunning landscapes. Places that people who think the state is nothing but flat fields are totally missing out on. The painted canyons of the west are one of those, and everyone should experience them at least once. Luckily, there is an awesome trail that will take you right down into the canyons in one of the most scenic spots. Not only that, but it’s easily accessible right off the interstate and free to experience. Take a look:

Visit the Painted Canyon Overlook just off of I-94 near Medora, North Dakota for beautiful views and a great trail. You can park at the visitor's center and go from there.

The overlook is a peek into the Theodore Roosevelt National Park. The colorful layers of the buttes and canyons are like something from another world. The view from the overlook itself is already gorgeous, but you'll definitely want to hit the trail to get the full experience.

The Painted Canyon Overlook is open year-round, however, the visitors center is seasonal and may not be open. You can still enjoy the view and trail regardless. It is just off of 1-94.
