Leah moved to North Dakota when she was 12 years old and has traveled from the Red River Valley to the badlands and many places in between. She loves small-town life and currently enjoys living on a small farm in the ND prairie. She's always had a passion for writing and has participated in novel writing challenges such as NaNoWriMo multiple times. Her favorite part about this job is recognizing small businesses that deserve a boost and seeing the positive affect her articles can have on their traffic, especially in rural areas that might have otherwise gone overlooked.
If you just feel like you need to get away from it all for a little while, North Dakota has a place that can be your sanctuary. This town is located out in the Turtle Mountains and surrounded by breathtaking scenery. Escape the day to day grind and take in some fresh air — you won’t regret it if you do it here!
Head out to the beautiful and charming small town of Bottineau in the scenic Turtle Mountains.
The town has a population of just over 2,200 and thrives on that perfect small-town charm. It has places like the last small-town creamery in the state, Pride Dairy, with some of the best ice cream, and places like the old Botno movie theater.
Surrounding the town is truly gorgeous scenery of the prairie-covered mountains that will make you feel like you can take in a deep breath of fresh air and gain a sense of calm.
One of Bottineau's biggest draws is the Lake Metigoshe State Park, located directly north of the town. The lake is one of the most serene and lovely places in the state.
You can make a weekend retreat out of it by camping at the park or staying in one of their cabins, or there are quite a few inns and hotels in Bottineau that can accommodate you just as well.
Chill out on the sandy beach along the shores of Lake Metigoshe or head to a fishing dock and toss a few lines. There's no better, more truly North Dakotan therapy than time spent at the lake!
Whether you check out the local attractions in Bottineau itself or immerse yourself in the nature surrounding the town, you'll fall in love with the place and find yourself refreshed once you've left. It's a spectacular destination!
Bottineau isn’t just a great place to visit in the spring, summer, and fall. It becomes a winter recreation hub for the Peace Garden State that is unsurpassed. If you need winter plans for fun, check it out!
