People from North Dakota are awesome, even we do have a few unusual quirks and habits that out-of-staters might find a little bizarre. Even if other people do find them weird, North Dakotans would defend some of them in particular to their dying breath. Here are 11 strange habits that we as people from the Peace Garden State would never give up:

Yep... that's a storm brewing alright. For some reason, standing or sitting outside to watch storms seems to be one of North Dakota's favorite summer pastimes.

It's just rude not to, even if you don't know them.

Other people might think ice fishing is a thing for people who lived in igloos many years ago, but us North Dakotans love it. Sitting in a little shed-like structure around a hole in the ice for hours at a time is just so fun!

Even if a North Dakotan finds themselves somewhere that calls it soda or cola or whatever else, we'll always call it pop no matter what. It's just what is right.

Okay, so not everyone likes lutefisk. Actually I'd say most people don't... it's an acquired taste. But there are people in North Dakota who do, and that's just fine.

I remember a lot of schools actually giving the day off for opening day of certain seasons. If they didn't, half the classes would be empty that day anyways.

There's no better combination of foods than tator tots, ground beef, cream-of-something, and some veggies. It's essential at every gathering, and it never gets old or repetitive. And it's NOT called casserole!

Whether it's for NDSU or UND or both, we'll always go green. If you're talking professional football, however, purple is another option next to green that is heavily divided amongst North Dakotans.

Baked, cooked out on a grill, or breaded and fried; on a bed of rice or a bun or just on its own - whatever you can do with walleye, we'll love. We know walleye is the best!

In some places, drumming up a conversation with someone you don't know might be considered borderline taboo. In North Dakota, however, people tend to talk to just about anyone, anywhere.
