You can still experience a retro movie experience at this historic theater in North Dakota. Not only is it one of the oldest movie theaters in the entire United States, but it’s also officially the oldest, continuously running theater in the country. It’s now 109 years old and has been in operation since 1911, and you can still catch a show there today:
Lisbon, North Dakota was founded in 1880. Just a little over 30 years later, a movie theater showed its first picture - a short, 10-minute black and white film called "Nemo." You'll find that exact theater still showing today's movies right on Main Street.
Not much has changed in the Scenic Theater over the century. It still has the classic signage outside, but the movies it shows inside are up to today's standards. The retro look isn't just outside, either.
Inside the Scenic, they still make hot, fresh popcorn during showtime and will take you back to the good old days with the vintage interior. Grab some snacks and head to the one and only theater for a show.
Movies are usually showing during the weekends on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday nights. They show today's top movies, so the next time you see something coming out that you'd like to watch, consider seeing it at the Scenic to add an extra fun aspect to your movie-going experience.
There's no other theater in the nation that can claim the title that the Scenic Theater has, and it'll only stay that way as long as people keep supporting it and going to see movies there - check it out for yourself and see what makes it so timeless!
