But if you want to find one that is as low in population and far away from everything else as possible, then these 10 towns might just be for you. It doesn’t get much more rural than this, and maybe that’s just what you’re looking for.
This little town is located in central North Dakota, in Wells County. The population is only 21. It is located near many lakes and ponds.
The town of Braddock was founded in 1889 and, like Hamberg, has a population of only 21 residents. It is the oldest town in Emmons County.

Only 25 people call Knox home, but in the 1950s that peaked at nearly 200. It is located out in Benson County, where it has been since it was founded in 1887.

This small town way out in the northwest corner of North Dakota is a quaint settlement with 57 residents. It is one of North Dakota's younger towns, having been founded in 1916. It just turned 100 this year!
Even further northeast is Fortuna at the very upper left corner of the state. Only 22 people call this town home.

Now this town is small! A mere 12 people reside here. It was founded in 1905 and had a population of over 200 in it's first few decades, but that began to steadily drop after the 1940s to where it is today.
This town is named after a Dutch province, and it's no surprise that the original settlers of this town were Dutch themselves. It was founded by them in 1902. Today, the population is 86.

This city straddles the border of both Towner and Cavalier Counties. It is named after a former North Dakota governor, and was founded by the railroad in 1905 at the end of an extension branch.
This tiny town only has 15 people living there and is right next to the Canadian border, making it one of the state's northernmost cities.
