Editor’s Note: Since the publication of this article, the Edinburg General Store has permanently closed.
Though most general stores have seemed to disappear over the years (unless we’re talking gas station convenience store chains), there are still a few of them hidden out there. North Dakota used to have a general store in nearly every town, but now you’ll have to dig to find the few true general stores that are left. One of these is located in the charming town of Edinburg, and it’s a lot more than meets the eye.
General stores used to be in practically every small town across North Dakota. Most of them disappeared over the decades, but you can still find some here and there.
Going to the town of Edinburg, North Dakota is like taking a step back in time. Many of the older stores are like time capsules and it's full of charm.
This is the Edinburg General Store, a quirky, two-level, one-of-a-kind shop that you won't find anywhere else. With a friendly exterior and an even friendlier welcome inside, you absolutely must give this place a visit.
The store has just about everything you could imagine and more inside its doors, including model trains running along tracks above your head as you shop. Antique furniture, pottery, and more are waiting for you inside.
There is hardware, house decor, gardening supplies — you name it. There is even an entire room dedicated to bird-related items, from feeders to cute bird sculptures. There is much more than you'd expect in one awesome little store!
Have you ever given this unusual yet totally cool store a visit? The store is open from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. from Mondays through Fridays, and until 5 p.m. on Saturdays. You can give them a call at (701)-993-8122
