What are some fun things about living in North Dakota?
It may seem like North Dakota is a plain state until you come visit. Here are some fun things about living in North Dakota that you may not have been aware of:

  • Hiking in the Theodore Roosevelt National Park: This beautiful area is filled with grasslands, ravines, canyons, and plenty of wide-open hiking trails. One of our favorites is the Caprock-Coulee Trail. You'll start the trail in a quiet forested area but soon the trail leads to overlooks of the beautiful North Dakota Badlands. Enjoy expansive views for miles, interesting rock formations at the River Bend Overlook, and views of the Little Missouri River.
  • Visit the Cowboy Hall of Fame: Medora is one of our favorite small towns in North Dakota. It just so happens to be the home of the Cowboy Hall of Fame. While you are visiting this charming ND town, stay at Maltese Cross Cabin. It was the original cabin of Theodore Roosevelt himself. If you get a kick out of old Wild West towns, Medora is a true gem. In the outskirts of town you can see wild horses roam, herds of buffalo, and quite possibly elk and bighorn sheep.
  • Seeing a vast field of sunflowers: North Dakota may not have the official Sunflower State nickname - but it should. It is the largest producer of sunflowers in the country. In one of its boom years, it even produced over half of the entire country's sunflowers - 1.14 billion pounds! Many might tell you driving through North Dakota is boring, but when the sunflowers are in bloom in late summer it is one of the most incredible sights we have seen in any state.

If you are looking for something fun and unique to do in North Dakota, how about chasing wild horses with your camera on a wildlife photography tour?
