Tori Jane is a storm chaser, writer, photographer, and the village idiot - in that order. When she's not out and about dancing with the meanest storms on planet Earth for funsies she can be found wandering, shooting landscapes, writing, editing photos, and otherwise up to no good. Legend has it that she can also be occasionally spotted typing up short bios in the third person, but those rumors are unsubstantiated.
Sometimes, there’s nothing better than a big ol’ plate of comfort food. No matter what it is (lasagna, fettuccini Alfredo, etc), it’s sure to be delicious and remind you of simpler times. Well, we found a delightful mom-and-pop shop that serves some of the best comfort food in North Dakota (and has been serving it for more than two decades). Head to the Food Barn in Powers Lake for top-notch tastiness that’s sure to leave you craving more.
This little hole-in-the-wall may not look like much, but don't let the low-key exterior fool you: this is one heck of a comfort food powerhouse, and you're going to leave stuffed (in the best way possible).
The recipes haven't changed in ages because they haven't needed to; after all, there's no sense in fixing something that isn't broken, and there's absolutely nothing broken about the home-style meals you'll nosh on at the Barn.
You'll feel the lightweight, friendly atmosphere as soon as you walk in, but there's no pressure to converse - you're welcome to hang out and read the news on your phone for a while, and the staff will treat you kindly just the same. If you prefer to carry on a conversation, well, they'll love that, too!
While you're in the area, be sure to explore Powers Lake!
It's a hidden gem when it comes to small towns in North Dakota, and the lake itself is a delight!
