Leah moved to North Dakota when she was 12 years old and has traveled from the Red River Valley to the badlands and many places in between. She loves small-town life and currently enjoys living on a small farm in the ND prairie. She's always had a passion for writing and has participated in novel writing challenges such as NaNoWriMo multiple times. There’s a special event coming up where you can shake off your cabin fever, embrace the new year, and maybe start working off some of that holiday treats. It’s going to be right on New Years Day in North Dakota and you won’t want to miss it. Bundle up and get some snowshoes or cross-country skis on and head out to this park for a magical event:
As the sun starts to set on the very first day of 2019, you can bundle up and head out to North Dakota's beautiful Fort Stevenson State Park.
The many lanterns will guide you through the hike as you trek through on foot, snow shoes, or cross-country skis. The latter two will be available in limited quantities to rent at the park's visitor center if you don't have any of your own. Snacks and refreshments will also be available.
The hike in the great outdoors - chilly as it may be - will help you shake off the cabin fever we all experience in the winter and also be a fresh, fun start to the new year.
Not only do the candle-lit lanterns make it beautiful, the park itself is naturally gorgeous and worth a visit any time of the year. But you definitely don't want to miss this special event!
The First Day Hike will be held January 1st, 2019, beginning at 6:00 PM in the Visitors Center at Fort Stevenson State Park. The park is located at 1252 41st Ave. NW, Garrison, ND 58540. For more information, click here.
