North Dakota’s most famed old hotel is a prime example of this; it was originally constructed back in 1884 and named The Metropolitan. It wasn’t renamed Rough Riders Hotel until 1905, but its history goes on long before – and long after – that. The town of Medora, North Dakota, is already pretty interesting: it's located in the Badlands and serves as the "gate" of sorts to Theodore Roosevelt National Park.
It's a town both beautiful and sleepy. It's quiet, but it's a popular destination for those curious about the natural wonders of North Dakota as well as the history buffs. Why are history buffs so interested in Medora?
Well, for one, it's the home of the historic Rough Riders Hotel.
This little place has quite the busy history; it's undergone several owners in its lifetime, and in 1962 it was dismantled and restored with as much of the original lumber as possible. In 2010, it was renovated again - but none of these happenings have done anything to tarnish the historic significance of the place.

The hotel is named after The Rough Riders in honor of the volunteer cavalry led by President Theodore Roosevelt and the men who served in it.
It's got wild-west charm with all the amenities you'd hope for in a modern-day place to stay. It's filled top to bottom with interesting things to read, see, and research.
