When she's not out and about dancing with the meanest storms on planet Earth for funsies she can be found wandering, shooting landscapes, writing, editing photos, and otherwise up to no good. Legend has it that she can also be occasionally spotted typing up short bios in the third person, but those rumors are unsubstantiated.
North Dakota isn’t exactly known for its overabundance of amazing lakes and swimming holes. Sure, we’ve got some, but it’s not exactly Minnesota. That said, sometimes, a good old-fashioned lake day is all your soul needs to relax and recharge. We found a beloved man-made swimming spot in North Dakota that’s perfect for any time you want to get outdoors and enjoy the weather while you can; it’s called Lake Tschida, and it’s the largest (okay, only) lake in Grant County. Always on the lookout for the next best man-made swimming hole in North Dakota? Lake Tschida is where it’s at.
Also known as Heart Butte Reservoir, this stunning man-made creation features 3,400 surface acres of sparkling water and boasts around 55 miles of shoreline.
It's a popular (well, for lesser-crowded North Dakota standards, anyway) escape from the boring hustle of everyday life, and it's the perfect place to run away to when the weather gets a little too warm for your liking.
It's not just popular among swimmers; it's also a well-liked recreation area for boaters and campers, too, though camping here can be a challenge.
There are only ten campsites available for reservation, and they book up fast - you'll want to plan your overnight escape to Lake Tschida well in advance.

Of course, if you don't have plans to spend the night, no worries - it's the perfect place to visit for a day trip, and those don't need to be planned too far in advance.
There are a couple of different playgrounds for the kids, and each is modern and clean. The water is beautiful and seems to reflect the never-ending North Dakota skies above, and you're in for a wonderful time, whether you're coming for some quiet time by yourself or bringing the whole family.
It's criminally overlooked in favor of larger, more popular lakes, but why do the most popular lakes (which will also be the most crowded) when you can do this lesser-known - but still beloved - adventure instead?
This is one of those lakes that just seems to calm the soul.
Settle down beside the water with a good book and soak your feet in the chilly water. Should you come during the week instead of on a weekend, you might just have the place to yourself.
We don't think it gets a whole lot more amazing than that.
