Leah moved to North Dakota when she was 12 years old and has traveled from the Red River Valley to the badlands and many places in between. She loves small-town life and currently enjoys living on a small farm in the ND prairie. She's always had a passion for writing and has participated in novel writing challenges such as NaNoWriMo multiple times. Her favorite part about this job is recognizing small businesses that deserve a boost and seeing the positive affect her articles can have on their traffic, especially in rural areas that might have otherwise gone overlooked.
If you’re really looking for a way to explore North Dakota’s scenic landscapes while traversing the longest trail in the state and one of the longest in the country, then you’ll want to check out the North Country Scenic Trail. This huge trail goes through many states and if the North Dakota section was stretched out straight, would span across the entire state and then some. It will take you through beautiful places and give you quite the experience.
This trail is the longest trail in North Dakota but it is only one section of an even bigger overall trail. It will take you through some truly gorgeous parts of the Peace Garden State.
It's called the North Country Scenic Trail, and it spans all the way from New York state and ends in North Dakota, but not before going across more than half the state. The ND section is alone over 400 miles long!
Taking the trail in ND will bring you on a journey through places like the Sheyenne Grassland and Sheyenne River Valley, Fort Ransom State Park, and many different places along the way.
You'll see historic sites, scenic overlooks, lovely parks, and tons of North Dakota countryside plus things like Lake Ashtabula and the Sheyenne River.
Finally, the trail ends at North Dakota's largest lake, Lake Sakakawea. It is not a feat that is easy to undertake all together, but you can enjoy sections of the trail by jumping on and off of it at your choosing. It's amazing!
