She loves small-town life and currently enjoys living on a small farm in the ND prairie. Her favorite part about this job is recognizing small businesses that deserve a boost and seeing the positive affect her articles can have on their traffic, especially in rural areas that might have otherwise gone overlooked.
North Dakota was a busy state during the height of the fur trade. Trading posts along the Missouri River thrived as traders went up and down the river to trap and sell their wares, especially up north. One of the biggest and busiest trading posts of that time was the Fort Union Trading Post, located near Williston, North Dakota and just on the border of Montana. You can travel back in time and visit the fort during its upcoming Living History Weekend, where it will come back to life with reenactments, demonstrations, and more.
The Fort Union Trading Post was one of the most influential and important posts on the Upper Missouri River. It's located near Williston, North Dakota.
Although it's been well over a century since it was thriving with trade, you can experience a glimpse into what it was like when it was a busy trading hub. There will be a Living History Weekend on August 31st, 2019 that you'll definitely want to check out.
Many people will be there dressed in historical costumes accurate to the time. Demonstrations will bring the fort back to life and make it seem like you are actually there during its height in the 1800s.
Both young kids and adults alike will find the reenactments enchanting, fun, and also very educational. One of the best things about this event is that it's free to attend!
Traders will be showing off their wares, including everything from pelts, guns, handcrafted items, and other things that would have been exchanged back in those days. Native American and European trappers alike will be roaming the fort and giving a sense of the day-to-day activities of a thriving trading post.
The activities go on for the whole day and can be enjoyed by anyone who wishes to attend without paying a single cent. What better way to spend one of the last days of summer in North Dakota?
The Living History Weekend will be held at the Fort Union Trading Post, located at the address below, on Saturday, August 31st, 2019. Find more information on this event by clicking here.
