A fun fact about North Dakota is that every single town is considered a city, no matter how small, just the same as some of its biggest cities are. There is a tiny city in the central region of the state that has very few residents, but it has a special title that no other place can claim.

Out in these gorgeous rolling hills of North Dakota, you'll find small towns scattered around - many of which were once booming but have now quieted down to populations of fewer than 100. According to the state of North Dakota, however, they are still cities.

The city of Lehr is one such place - having over 500 residents in the 1940s but only just about 70 today. Out of all those other small cities, only this one can say it is the smallest city in America to be situated in two counties.

Lehr is right on the border of both Logan County and McIntosh County. While there are other cities out there to be part of multiple counties, most are huge - there's only one as tiny as this one. You can see it circled in red at the very bottom of Logan County:

When you drive into Lehr, you'll see a sign proclaiming this title. The town is quiet with, as you'd imagine, a pretty tight community. There used to be two schools in the town, but now there are none.
