There is not much of summer left here in North Dakota, so you’ll want to get the most out of it while the weather is still warm. Most campgrounds start closing up shop in September, so you still have a few weekends left to get in a camping visit. If you’re looking for a campground that’s a bit different from the rest to finish off the year, here’s the one for you:
Head out into the middle (literally!) of North Dakota's largest natural lake at Graham's Island State Park for an island camping getaway.
By taking a narrow road across the water, you'll reach this large island with one of the state's most beautiful and popular state parks. It has everything you need for the perfect camping trip.
The park's campground has plenty of space and facilities for all kinds of camping. There are four cabins you can rent, primitive camping, and places to park the RV. All of this is located in the forest of trees surrounded by lake that makes for a beautiful setting.
Even as summer is truly ending, the leaves of the trees begin turning and it results in an even more gorgeous experience. Full service camping continues to September.
... To the huge and open lake with plenty of fish to catch, there are a lot of options to enjoy it. The state park has one of the best boat ramps on the Lake as well as a bait and supply shop right inside the park for all your fishing needs.
Grahams Island State Park is located at 152 S Duncan Rd., Devils Lake, ND 58301. Campsites must be reserved in advance, and more information on how to make a reservation can be found right here.
