There seems to be some people out there who have some confusion about North Dakota. Sometimes people think this state doesn’t have anything to offer, that it’s just a fly-over state, many even like to joke it doesn’t exist in the first place. But what they don’t understand is that not only does it indeed exist, but it excels and they probably have some things to thank it for. The Peace Garden State, Roughrider State, Flicker Tail State – whatever you’d like to call it, it has plenty of ways to prove why anyone who hates can just shut up, and here are 10 of them:
Thanks to North Dakota’s durum wheat, of which it is the leading producer of, this country gets to enjoy tons of pasta noodles which are made from that type of wheat. This state produces two-thirds of America’s durum wheat and without us they’d seriously be lacking.
This state is a top producer of sunflowers, soybeans, canola, barely, oats, and so much more including milk and beef. With over 95% of the state’s land area being used for farmlands, it is thanks to us for providing literal tons of food to the rest of the country.

The world may not revolve around us, but the North American continent does center around North Dakota. Specifically you can find an obelisk for that center in the town of Rugby, ND. No other place in the world can say the same, and that makes us pretty darn cool!

On their travels, Lewis and Clark spent most of their time in various places in North Dakota. It was even here that they spotted their first grizzly bear, something most of the new settlers out east didn’t even know existed.
That former president would be Theodore Roosevelt. He credited his drive to pursue presidency thanks to experiences he had and what he learned in North Dakota. He even called North Dakotans the best type of American all should strive to be. I don’t think any other place could say the same! Today, our one and only beautiful national park is named after him - and it’s thanks to him we have so many amazing national parks in the US in the first place.

Out-of-staters like to joke that North Dakota is nothing but boring flat fields, and to that I ask if they’ve ever seen one of our gorgeous sunsets. There really isn’t anything like it and its only in a place with vast plains as beautiful as these that you get them.
Flat everywhere, huh? What about the rugged badlands, the rolling river valleys, and the Turtle Mountains? I think they prove otherwise pretty easily!

North Dakotans are often hunters and fishers, and thanks to that most are very concerned about wildlife conservation. As a result, we have more wildlife refuges than any other state, helping to keep our amazing natural wildlife populations strong and able to roam in protected areas.
We have two amazing colleges to cheer for in national college sports that prove themselves winners again and again, breaking records and being totally awesome in general.
