When the fall foliage colors begin to peak, there's no better place to be in North Dakota than one of its river valleys. One of the best to visit is the Sheyenne River Valley, where you'll find scenery like this:
A great place to whisk yourself away into nature and just enjoy the sights of fall is Fort Ransom State Park, located right next to the charming little town of Fort Ransom.
The trees provide a colorful backdrop to the hidden meadows and river scenes. Fort Ransom State Park is also home to historic homesteads that have been preserved and look postcard-perfect this time of year.
If you'd like to extend your stay to more than just an afternoon hike, cozy up in one of the cabins, yurts, or even an old covered wagon provided by the park. They also have both modern and primitive campsites and sites with horse corrals.
Meander along over 20 miles of trails that range from short and sweet, less-than-half-mile trails to longer multi-mile trails that go up ridgelines and down along the river's edge.
