Leah moved to North Dakota when she was 12 years old and has traveled from the Red River Valley to the badlands and many places in between. She loves small-town life and currently enjoys living on a small farm in the ND prairie. She's always had a passion for writing and has participated in novel writing challenges such as NaNoWriMo multiple times. Her favorite part about this job is recognizing small businesses that deserve a boost and seeing the positive affect her articles can have on their traffic, especially in rural areas that might have otherwise gone overlooked.
Many of North Dakota’s small towns share something in common with one another: they all have a single restaurant, a watering hole of sorts, where everyone there knows everyone. It’s usually a bar and grill, serving beer and burgers and the usual fried bar grub. You don’t need much more to please the hungry folks of a little farm community, and for the most part, people are there to have a good time with one another and catch up on the local gossip. Some small towns, however, have restaurants that stand out from the rest. The Finish Line restaurant in North Dakota is exactly that – and here’s what makes it special:
Velva, North Dakota is not unlike many other towns around its size throughout the state. The tallest buildings in town are the grain elevators and there are a few local businesses here and there, one of them being the Finish Line.
Finish Line Burgers & Brews is a bit different than many small-town bars and grills, and that's quite apparent in their entirely racing-themed establishment. You'll find car racing decor all throughout the restaurant.
The other part of the Finish Line that sets it apart from the rest is their totally epic burgers and the option to build your own with one of the many, many toppings.
We're not just talking about a few toppings choices - you can pick everything from a variety of meat, like pulled pork or chicken instead of just a beef patty, to unique bun options.
Get a tasty brisket burger with a soft pretzel bun, loaded with toppings that range from classics such as lettuce and bacon to wacky combinations of mac and cheese or pieces of ribeye steak.
They have delicious burgers of the day, too, with fun combinations like waffles for buns and toppings like fried eggs or peanut butter. The possibilities are seemingly endless!
You can't go wrong when you can make a burger that's exactly to your liking, and with sides like fresh-made potato chips (and by fresh, we really mean fresh - they are made to order!) or cheese-smothered fries, you're in for a good time at the Finish Line.
You can learn more about Finish Line Burgers & Brews on their Facebook page. If you love burgers, swing by and try theirs. The patties are never frozen and the immense amount of possible combinations are delicious.
When it comes to wacky burger restaurants, North Dakota actually has quite a few. Sickies Garage, a North Dakota-based and steadily growing regional chain, touts its 50 burgers and 50 brews as a great reason to visit – and it is!
