Field trips were always so exciting as a kid. Not only did you get to skip out on a day of regular classes, you got to load in the bus with all your classmates and head out to see something new. There are some destinations in North Dakota that many people have been to on school field trips before and likely haven’t been to since. Some of those places are well worth revisiting today, and here are 10 of them:
1. North Dakota Heritage Center - Bismarck
One of the most unique buildings in North Dakota is also full of just about every part of the state's history. This is the North Dakota Heritage Center and is located right on the capitol grounds in Bismarck. From the dinosaurs to today, every part of the Peace Garden State's story can be found here, and so much more. The best part? It's free to visit for everyone!

2. Lewis & Clark Interpretive Center - Washburn
The famous exploring pair Lewis and Clark spent more time in North Dakota than they did anywhere else during their travels. This interpretive center in Washburn showcases information, artifacts, interactive exhibits, and more of their fantastic adventures.

3. Chateau de Mores - Medora
A house owned by a man who was highly significant to this region, and now a lovely mansion to walk through that is still full of all the same artifacts for over a hundred years, the Chateau de Mores is an endlessly fascinating place. The owner himself, the Marquis de Mores, is the reason the town of Medora exists at all, and he attempted to revolutionize the beef industry back in the day. He himself is interesting to learn about, and his former mansion is a great place to do so. If you're visiting Medora, definitely take a look at this place.

4. Bonanzaville - West Fargo
This is a historical site that sees hundreds of visitors each year. The historical town is loaded with restored buildings of different shops and businesses that were common back in the day. Every building is like a mini museum, and there's so much to see!

5. National Buffalo Museum - Jamestown
Other than having the world's largest buffalo out front, the National Buffalo Museum also houses a wonderful museum and a real life bison herd of its own, which includes some of the only white and albino bison in the world. There is plenty inside and outside, plus just down the road is the Frontier Village, another historic site that is also full of things to see.

6. North Dakota Museum of Art - Grand Forks
The official state museum of art is located right in Grand Forks. The fascinating pieces you can find here change out often so there are always new things to see. They have a permanent collection from artists all over the world. There are many great pieces to be discovered here.

7. Dakota Territory Air Museum - Minot
Whether you are an aviation enthusiast or not, the Dakota Territory Air Museum is pretty darn awesome. They have many rare, unique, and amazing aircraft here, some of which you can't find anywhere else in the world still running. The tour guides are always ready to teach you about the many ferocious machines they have in their collection.

8. Chahinkapa Zoo - Wahpeton
This delightful zoo keeps people coming back all throughout their lifetime, even after their school days. it features a variety of animals including tigers, bears, snow leopards, an orangutan, and bison, of course, among many others. Not only that, but it has historical significance and a beautiful, antique, restored carousel.

9. Bagg Bonanza Farm - Mooreton
This beautiful farm just outside of the tiny town of Mooreton has a fascinating history. The fully restored, massive home is absolutely gorgeous, and the large barn and other farm buildings are equally as nice. Other than having interesting historical tours talking about the history of both this farm and the many like it that sprang up in North Dakota's early settler days, this is a prime destination for events such as weddings.

10. Fort Union Trading Post - Williston
At one point, this trading post was the most important fur post on the Upper Missouri River. Thousands of items were traded here annually back in its day, and today it has been perfectly restored and is visitable by the public for free. The grounds are full of things to explore.
