Autumn is a magical time of year, isn’t it? The weather is rapidly changing from warm and muggy to crisp and chilly, with that familiar little bite in the air that tells us winter is on its way. There are some towns all over North Dakota that are downright magic during this time of year; one such town is the adorable, historic little town of Medora, which is – get this – nestled within a stunning national park. Autumn is the perfect time to visit beautiful Medora, North Dakota!
Medora was established in 1883 and it's been ridiculously beautiful since day one.
In fall, it takes on a special majesty; the rich golds, brilliant reds, and vibrant oranges covering the surrounding trees is the perfect backdrop to a lovely afternoon in Medora.
Medora has a very special claim to fame: it's nestled within Theodore Roosevelt National Park, which is a thing not a whole lot of towns can brag about.
During this amazing time of year, an already incredible place becomes like something out of a festive fall fairy tale. Hike the several scenic trails, admire the brilliant foliage, and experience it for all it's got to offer.

There are plenty of delightful things to do and see in this little North Dakota town.
Typically, at the end of October, Medora throws a bash called the Teddy Roosevelt Birthday Package, which includes dinner and a show, among other fun things. It's a great time to appreciate autumn and learn about the interesting history of the park and Blackhills as a celebration of the former President's birthday. This year, the bash is on October 27th.
As a bonus, it's worth mentioning that Medora is home to the world-famous Medora Musical, which folks come from all over to see. We totally mean it when we say this little tiny town, seemingly in the middle of nowhere, is a true delight you won't find anywhere else.
Of course, if festivities with people around aren't quite your thing, no worries - there are plenty of quiet hiking trails throughout the town and park, as well as other interesting natural wonders to take in.
The area is incredibly photogenic, so don't forget to bring a camera - and dress warm, because it's starting to get chilly right about now!
